Most wildfire models (the risk models used by insurance companies, and the fire simulation models used by firefighters and organizations) are based on the US Forest Service’s WHP and satellite data. The Athena team has more than a decade of experience with geospatial data, primarily in agriculture, where satellite data is insufficient to understand vegetation.
Texans may be in luck. According to inciweb.gov it has started to snow over much of the Smokehouse Creek Fire.
Yesterday, the wind was causing spread to the east, into Oklahoma. Now the wind has shifted southward.
